THOMASTON, MAINE — Hundreds of unique and unusual items from the estate of legendary Maine antique collector Richard E. Plunkett are among the lots taking their place on the auction block on Friday, April 17th at 11 AM, as Thomaston Place Auction Galleries presents its exclusive Design & Decor Auction. This special one-day sale brings to bidders an impressive assortment of fine glassware, porcelain, decorative china, silver, and selected works of art. In addition to the items from the Plunkett estate, the auction will feature choice selections from other fine private collections.
Renowned in collectors' circles as an author, lecturer, appraiser, and dealer, Richard Plunkett operated his Wizard of Odds and Ends shop in the Head Tide district of Alna, Maine, for over thirty years, and his passion for both the beautiful objects he collected and the stories behind them led him to assemble an impressive personal collection of unique and colorful items. "Richard Plunkett was a respected colleague and collector who made his mark in the world of antiques over six decades," declared Thomaston Place Auction Galleries founder and auctioneer Kaja Veilleux, "and we are proud to represent his estate with this memorable auction."
Presented from this collection in the Design & Decor Auction will be glass, pottery, and porcelain from such distinguished and highly collectible makers as Loetz, Amphora of Austria, Wedgwood, Lalique, Steuben, Doulton Burslem, W. T. Copeland, Limoges, M. S. Kuznetsov, and Meissen, along with a varied and unusual assortment of original Staffordshire plates, Toby jugs, and figurines. With the Mother's Day holiday fast approaching, bidders will find that this auction offers ample ideas for memorable and meaningful gifts. Bidders attending the auction at the Gallery or taking advantage of easy phone or absentee bidding will save a total of 5% on their buyer's premium for their winnings.
A live public preview of the Design & Decor Auction takes place at the Gallery, 51 Atlantic Highway in Thomaston, Maine from April 14th to April 16th between 11 AM and 5 PM.
